What is Ayurveda? A sister science of Yoga, Ayurveda is the oldest continuously practiced healthcare system in the world.  This five thousand year old discipline is drawn from the Vedic texts of India meaning “Science of Life”, the word translates as biology. Ayurvedic Medicine is a holistic tradition from India that uses a systemic highly complex model of health, disease and health restoration. It provides guidance regarding diet, hygiene, and lifestyle so that individuals can maintain their health, and those with health challenges can improve their health. Ayurveda stresses the use of natural therapies to maintain or restore a natural state of balance in the mind and body.  It includes:  healthy eating with the use of natural foods and beneficial herbs, daily exercise, deep tissue massage, Chakra and Prana balancing and natural cleansing. Spiritual counseling can include breathing, meditation, Reiki and Reflexology.

In recent years the science of Ayurveda has become recognized in the west as Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.  Healthcare in this form is one of the fastest growing professional fields today. Holistic medicine is now viewed in the United States as an important part of the solution to the rising incidence of chronic disease and the dramatically increasing cost of healthcare.  Ayurvedic Medicine has earned respect as a scientifically valid system.  The World Health Organization calls it “An invaluable part of humankind’s medical heritage and an important tool in the service and promotion of global health.”  As Ayurveda is a personal approach to wellness and medicine, Dr. Khokhar evaluates the needs and goals of each client and works with you guiding and directing you to empower you to the practice of The Art of Self-Healing.
